Dear lymphologists, lymphedema activists and colleagues,

We would like to personally welcome you to the 26th World Congress of Lymphology. The 2017 conference promises to be our most exciting and rewarding one yet, with clinicians, basic and clinical scientists, therapy professionals, patient advocates and leading faculty and international guest speakers joining together in discussions and presentations about some of the latest advances and sharing their frontline knowledge and experiences in the many fields of interest in lymphology.

This 26th World Congress of Lymphology focuses on contemporary topics in managing lymphedema, including the latest innovations in advanced wound care in the interdisciplinary settings of vascular and lymphedema management, the deployment of emerging surgical approaches in the context of lymphedema management, and advanced compression techniques.

The instructional sessions are designed by world-renowned experts to enable participants to explore the related physiology and science as well as new techniques through intensive workshops, panels, and demonstrations designed to allow direct translation of learned understandings, skills and techniques to optimize diagnoses, treatment, and management.

New topics such as nutrition, effects of radiation and chemotherapy, and measurement techniques and tools will be introduced in 2017 to augment recurring themes like axillary web syndrome, morbid obesity, pediatrics, and exercise. Led by distinguished researchers in the field of lymphology, the plenary sessions will present state-of-the-art research and evidence-based strategies.

To honor the tremendous importance that research holds at ISL Conferences, Best New Investigator and Best Career Investigator awards will be presented to acknowledge outstanding individual research efforts.

The opportunities for discourse and dialogue among participants make this international congress unique. The 2017 World Congress of Lymphology provides an unequalled opportunity to see old friends and make new acquaintances , to learn about the latest advances in the many disciplines of lymphology and treatment of patients with lymphedema, to interact with patients, and to participate in discussions about some of the most important issues facing us in daily clinical practice. On behalf of the Organizing Committee we welcome you to the Congress and thank you for joining us in Barcelona!

Barcelona is one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world.

It has a huge number of attractions including a city centre which retains its medieval street plan; some stunning modernist architecture including several buildings by Gaudí – Spain’s most famous architect -; dozens of museums including one dedicated to Picasso, another to Miró and yet another to Barça, Barcelona’s world famous football club! There are major arts exhibitions throughout the year and concerts and shows of different kinds happening all the time.

Barcelona is almost as lively at night as it is during the day and it has a unique, exciting atmosphere, which provides the visitor with a truly unforgettable experience.

The city enjoys an almost perfect climate making it an ideal place to be at any time of the year. It even has its own sandy beaches.

The city’s geographical position also makes it the easiest Spanish city to reach from the rest of Europe and there are direct flights from most cities in the world to its prize-winning international airport.
